About us

Nikki and Tyler - Co-founders of Scubaful

Hello! We are Nikki and Tyler, best friends, partners, and co-founders of Scubaful.

Nikki was born and raised in the Philippines and was always an ocean lover. She was certified in 2014 but moved to New York in 2015 and was not able to start diving again until 2023. The only reason? She met a friend's uncle at a wedding who told her about an all-inclusive trip to Roatan that she couldn't pass up. All she needed was one person to get her back into diving.

When Nikki said she will go to Roatan with or without Tyler, he didn't want to miss out. He immediately signed up to get certified and went on the trip that eventually changed his life forever.

Nikki and Tyler have been going on dive trips since. After joining a few more organized trips, they realized how old-school and inconvenient everything was. Instructions were sent in long emails, email reminders contained different, sometimes confusing, information, and they had no clue who they were going diving with.

That's how Scubaful was born. An app where you can see all the information you need for the trip or the course, all in one place. You can even see who's diving with you and start a group chat where everyone can feel comfortable asking questions as you prepare for the trip ("Which wetsuit are you bringing?", "When is everybody arriving at LAX?"), while on the trip ("Hey, does anybody want to grab dinner at Buddy's at 6pm?", "Does anyone have a spare torch they can lend?"), or even after the trip ("Loved diving with you all! What's everyone's next trip?"). Imagine a life where you join an epic trip and it doesn't start awkwardly because it feels like you've already met your dive buddies.

Scubaful is not a dive log, it's a dive journal filled with the memories you shared and the people you shared it with. We believe that diving is an extremely social activity – we share boats, we share experiences underwater, we share meals, our safety depends on each other. We need to be able to trust one another and build lifelong friendships beyond a one-time trip. The only reason we're still diving? Because we feel like we've found our circle.

Find yours too and join the community of divers on Scubaful.

Our mission

Encourage divers to keep diving together, with purpose.

Diving can feel intimidating even after you've completed your certification. Nobody dives in your family, none of your friends are interested, and it just takes a lot of effort. You need to find a trip, a dive buddy you trust, and so on and so forth. Few brave souls go on dive trips alone.

That's what we want to change with Scubaful. We want people to feel welcome to join trips and sign up for courses without scouring the internet for information or looking for random Facebook groups. Connect with real divers, join authentic experiences, and keep the memories and friendships alive.

Our long-term mission is to support conservation and volunteer programs through our app. We pledge to support non-profits and local diving communities with free lifetime membership so they can post, invite, and encourage divers to join their causes.

Special thanks

Special thanks to Mich, Rick, Debbie, Jackie, Mark, and Josephine for being early testers during our Bonaire trip (and beyond) and for being strong supporters of Scubaful.
